Thinking about what I want and need from this course unit and considering the areas that have peaked my interest in previous units, I would like to focus on the following:
- Confidence in my own illustrations
- Regular drawing practice
- Further exploration of narrative to include characters and scenes but with an emphasis on nature and animals.
- Explore drawing on a larger graphics tablet in Photoshop or similar programs.
- Explore painting with acryla gouache and pencils
My background is in acrylic painting, I have worked with both a narrative, observational and abstract styles over the years and enjoyed elements of them all.
Since beginning this degree I have found a love for digital illustration, specifically drawing on my iPad in Procreate. I would love to develop this further but also see if I can develop my painting style using other mediums like acryla gouache which I haven't tried yet.
I do like a mix of traditional and digital mediums, I find that they balance the different aspects of my personality. Digital brings out a more playful, vibrant side and the traditional a more calming, nostalgic side.
Nature, flowers and animals have always been a big theme in my work, they inspire me and I feel myself come alive when I draw or paint within these themes. I have drawn people on many occasions and even attended some of the life drawing classes. Whilst I enjoy the challenge of drawing people, I always come back to nature, animals and flowers and feel like that is my creative voice.
I am interested to see where this course unit will take my work. I feel I have learnt so much during this degree and really grown in my journey so far and look forward to seeing what's next.
